
The Committee: What is it?
The Contaminated Sites Committee is a statutory committee established under section 33 of the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 (the Act) . The Committee consists of between three and five persons, who possess suitable expertise to make decisions for the purposes of the Act . The Committee is appointed from a panel of names submitted to the Minister for the Environment in accordance with regulation 13 of the Contaminated Sites Regulations 2006 . Committee members hold office for a maximum period of three consecutive years and are eligible for reappointment.

The Committee is supported by an executive officer and a legal officer who provide administrative, case management and legal research assistance, and at least one environmental officer who provides advice and assistance in regards to technical issues raised in appeals and applications lodged with the Committee. Support staff are employed under the Public Sector Management Act 1994 .
